Volcanoes National Park Safaris

Embrace the Wild

Heart of Rwanda

Volcanoes National Park, or Parc National des Volcans, is in Rwanda’s misty highlands. It borders Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mgahinga National Park in Uganda. The park is named after a chain of steep volcanoes. These volcanoes stretch across the DRC and are home to majestic mountain gorillas.

Five of the eight volcanoes in the chain are within the park. They are covered in dense rainforest and bamboo. Volcanoes National Park is home to about 300 mountain gorillas. This is nearly half of the world’s remaining population, making it perfect for a Rwanda gorilla tour.

Dian Fossey spent over 20 years here studying and protecting the gorillas. Her efforts led to strong conservation laws. Her story was told in the film Gorillas in the Mist, filmed in the park. This brought global attention to the plight of mountain gorillas.

Gorilla safaris are the park’s most popular activity. But there is more to do. Visitors can enjoy hikes, nature walks, and even mountain climbing on the forested slopes.
