The Kalahari & Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park

Kalahari Desert Safaris

The Kalahari &
Kgadikgadi Transfrontier Park

Spanning several countries in Southern Africa, the Kalahari Desert in Botswana, a vast expanse of unending landscapes and starlit skies, offers an escape into one of Africa’s most pristine wildernesses. The Kalahari Desert in Botswana, along with parts of South Africa, provides excellent wildlife viewing and safari opportunities. This semi-arid savannah stretches across several countries, boasting protected areas like the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in Botswana, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (straddling South Africa and Botswana), and the verdant expanses of the Green Kalahari in South Africa.

These premier regions offer a safari experience unlike any other, far from the well-known tourist areas, inviting adventurers to explore remote wildernesses teeming with wildlife. Visitors can enjoy excellent sightings of a variety of antelope, including springbok, gemsbok, and red hartebeest, as well as predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards. Bird watching here is also excellent, especially in the vibrant summer months when most of the area’s rainfall occurs.

The Kalahari Desert in Botswana, often referred to and thought of as a desert, is largely a semi-arid region and home to a surprising variety of plant and animal life that have cleverly adapted to survive its harsh conditions. Only certain parts of the southwestern Kalahari can really be classified as a true desert, receiving very little annual rainfall. This unique ecosystem makes the Kalahari a very rewarding safari destination, especially for guests who have already seen many of the more typical safari destinations.
